Spring is finally here! We have had temperatures in the 70″s and 80″s for most of the month of March. That is very unusual for the Midwest! A lot of people like to do spring cleaning this time of year. Your decluttering can actually benefit someone else! You may also be interested in Ten Ways to Give Back. Here are ten organizations that accept donations of things you might not need anymore.
1. Soles4Souls- This shoe donating organization distributes nearly 17 million pairs of shoes worldwide to people who don’t own any. They need new or gently used shoes even if they’re singles.
2. Books for Africa- Educational supplies are given to kids who can’t attend school. Popular fiction and nonfiction; all levels of textbooks, encyclopedias, dictionaries, medical and law books. You can donate here.
3. The National Furniture Bank Association- They are about 90 locations in the U.S. and Canada. They help struggling families furnish their homes. They need gently used beds , dressers, tables,chairs, couches and lamps. You can donate furniture here.
4. Dress For Success- This is a nonprofit has provided professional clothes for disadvantaged women. Their website can be found here.
5. Child’s Play- This nonprofit has raised over $10 million for purchasing gifts for kids staying in hospitals for long stays. They accept new video games and board games, toys (no stuffed animals) and electronic consoles. You can find them at childsplaycharity.
6. Bags4Kids- This foundation supplies children in foster care or shelters with a piece of luggage. Money that is donated go toward buying toiletries, toys, books, and other items to fill their bags. Backpacks, duffels and tote bags are needed. Find out how to donate at bags4kids.
7. Newborns In Need- This is a charity that helps take care of needy babies. They distribute Newborn Immediate Need Kits filled with basic necessities. If you would like to learn more about taking care of newborns needs I’m sure they have a place for you to help.
8. Verizon Hopeline- If you have an old cell phone you don’t need anymore you can donate it to Verizon Hopeline. It puts phones in the hands of domestic violence victims and survivors.
9. Lions Recycle For Sight Program- Donate your old eyeglasses to a local Lions Club. They take sunglasses, reading glasses, prescription glasses and especially are in need of children’s glasses. You can donate your glasses here.
10.Donate My Dress- this is an organization that takes gently used prom dresses. The site has a local directory that informs you where you can donate or receive a dress.
