I love reading all year long, but especially in the summer. There’s nothing better than sitting on your deck with an ice tea or sitting on a beach with a good book. I have been using paper back swap for many years. I have gotten some great books and gotten rid of ones to free up more space. There are also many other sites that I discovered for free or almost free. Here are some of them.
Book Crossing– This is a site that has you drop off a book at local restaurants, coffee shops, parks, etc. Other members can pick them up. The site tracks where the books have been. It sounds kind of cool to me.
Book Mooch– By donating books to this site, you earn books that can be exchanged for books. You only pay for shipping when you mail your books. You can also give your points and books to charity such as African literacy programs or children’s hospitals.
Children’s Books Online– I really liked this site. They have a big collection of illustrated children’s books from around the world. They are free to the public.
Bibliomania– This is a simple site that offers over 2000 classic books, poems, short stories and plays.
Google Book Search– Google has over one million books for people to read online for free!
Memoware– This site offers free e-books and documents that are designed for handheld devices.
World Public Library– This is the largest online source of ebooks. Membership is free.

Love all these ideas for encouraging reading! Another one that I have heard about before is Storynory. It is an online treasure of audio stories. You can find a mixture of new stories, fairy tales, and specially adapted myths and histories. http://storynory.com/ (dropping by from SITS)
