I love using inexpensive things to organize my home. I try to figure out different ways to use containers for organizing. I especially like the dishpan. You can get them at the Dollar Tree and other places in different sizes. I decorated this one for my son who loves basketball. I just used sharpies and a sticker. You could embellish it as much as you like. Here are some ways I like to use dishpans:
1. I used them for my kids clean and folded laundry. They each took their own bin up to their room to put away. Of course now that they are older and their clothes are bigger this no longer works!
2. I have used them for books. Over at space for living, she shows you how she organized her kids books.
3. I like to use them to organize baking goods in the pantry. All I need to do is slide it out like a drawer, and it is much less expensive. I have everything all in one place.
4. When my kids were younger I liked to use the dishpans as a toy bin organizer. I would separate them by kind. Legos in one pan, blocks in another, etc.
5. You could also have a dishpan for each member of the family in your command center. Just put their name on it and decorate. When your child comes home from school they could dump all their important papers, library books, etc into it. You can take it with you to another room and look through its contents. A friend of mine used an old dresser and took the drawers out and inserted the bins.
I hope these ideas have your creative juices flowing. How do you use dishpans to organize your home?

I have a stack of these laying around too. I only seem to pull them out when I’m in the basement and need to carry something upstairs. I hadn’t thought to put them to use around the house. Thanks for the ideas!

Thats great! You know what I found on pinterest a few months back. One mom took an ordinary cardboard box, got some fabric and used duck tape to make a pretty box to organize a bin of toys! Very clever and no one would know its just a cardboard box. 😉
Thanks for sharing it on the Weekend Blog Post Showcase and I’m sorry I couldn’t stop by over the weekend. It was a busy weekend.

I use dollar tree storage bins for everything! Infact, I’m pretty sure I have gone overboard with them by now.
Great Post, thank you!
