I decided to try my hand at making some pretty yarn balls. I bought some Styrofoam balls and decided to give it a try.
You will need:
A glue gun (low temp. preferably)
A ball of yarn or twine in your chosen color
Styrofoam balls

First put a small dot of hot glue on the ball and adhere the end of the yarn to the glue. |

Start wrapping the glue around the ball tightly. You may put a few small glue drops as you go along. Start criss crossing the yarn making sure to cover any glue spots.
I found the wooden bowl at Goodwill. I hope to cover it in jute in the future. Can you think of other ways to cover Styrofoam balls? I’d love to hear your ideas! I am linking up to Fireflys and Jellybeans!

You are right: they are so pretty! They looks so well done and the colors are so peaceful….

Thanks Crystelle. I just stopped by your blog, the colors are so pretty!
Superb blog! Do you have any helpful hints for
aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost on everything.
Would you advise starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option?
There are so many choices out there that I’m totally confused .. Any ideas? Thanks a lot!

So, I need something for my crate on my mantel-and thought of making these…but I thought they’d be way harder! I’m totally making them now, after seeing yours. You should come share at Pinworthy Projects
Thanks for stopping by. I’m sure they will look great on your mantle!
Those are wonderful. I really am working on taking back the house from my kids. These would be great!

I, too, love the colors. You could cover the styrofoam with fabric or felt, I suppose, but yard is something that is supposed to be in balls, so I like that idea better. :O)
Pretty yarn balls! I’ve been wanting to try something like this. I’ll pin it for later.
This is a cute idea. And it is good to put them on Styrofoam, because if I just made balls of yarn, they wouldn’t last very long before I raided my decoration bowl for knitting projects. lol.
Cool!! My mom made those when I was a kid but she didn’t use styrofoam. Great idea!

Funny you should make these…I just bought some from HomeGoods to put in my kitchen table vase. Never thought of making them but will now.

Thank you Natalie! You made my day! I will grab a button.
I found your post through the SITS Saturday Sharefest.
Those are so pretty! I love them. I have on my craft table right now some plastic easter eggs that I want to cover with pretty, pastel yarn and glue to a grape vine wreath for our front door. I really need to get to that project soon. Easter is right around the corner! 🙂
This is perfect for the yarn my 6 month old kitten got a hold of. I wan’t sure if I wanted to get rid of the yarn a tangled mess, but it would fit this project perfectly. Thanks for sharing & linking up at my party. Hope your having a nice week.
