I feel it is important to start my day off with a scripture and daily devotions. Sometimes I am limited in time or energy so I need a little help. I found my top three apps for daily devotions that help me start my day off right, even when I’m in a hurry or too tired to concentrate.
1. You Version This first app is my favorite. I’m sure many of you are familiar with this one. What I love about it is that you can read it in many different versions. Sometimes I like to read in the message version and other times the New International Version. It has a scripture waiting for you every day. You can either read the few verses that are picked or you can read the whole chapter. You can also highlight verses and make them into images. This helps me keep track of things that stood out to me. The images make it easier for me to memorize scripture. I love looking back to see what I felt was important to me on a certain day.
It also has a feature that lets you listen to the verses instead of reading them. This is perfect for those mornings when my brain is foggy. I close my eyes and let the words wash over me. There are also many reading plans and devotions to choose on just about any topic. You can share with others what you are studying with people that are using the same app.
Another cool feature is live events in your area. You can listen to church services if they have signed up to stream them. This feature makes it possible to attend church even when you’re not able.
2. Abide is the second one that I use. You can hear daily prayers that are sent to you every morning and evening. You can also pick from different topics. It has different background music if you choose to use it. The sharing feature makes it easy to be there for your friends and family. If you want to encourage with a certain prayer you can send it to them.
3. First 5 just came to me in my inbox last week. It is a new app developed by the women at Proverbs 31 Ministries. The idea behind it is to give God your first five minutes of your day. It is a great way to make sure you don’t forget to start your day off right. The thing I like about this app is it can be programmed as your alarm. It’s nice to have something pleasant waking you up in the morning. It gives you five minutes of scripture, just one verse at a time, and before you know it you have studied a whole bible chapter!
How do you like to study the bible? Do you have a favorite app? With all these cool apps I really have no excuse!
