I was asked to review the Gut Health Storylines app from Health Storylines through the Chronic Illness Bloggers. I will be compensated, but all opinions are my own. I have reviewed another health app in the past called Prohealth. This app is a bit different because it has specific apps for specific problems such as gut health, cancer, asthma, and cardiac issues. Gut Health Storylines is an app to track daily health needs that deal with your gut. This app was free which was important to me. Managing a chronic illness can be expensive.
I like the cheerful colors and the fact that it’s personal with my name. I do deal with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and have never seen an app specifically for this problem. I have tried a lot of different things to help improve my condition, but nothing has helped completely. This app has helped me in five ways.
Five Ways App to Track Daily Health Needs has Helped Me:
The Stool Diary
Yes, we need to go there. When my doctor asks me if there have been any changes in my stool patterns I usually can’t remember from day to day. This app allows you to choose from seven different types of texture. It also allows you to pick from six different colors. There is a space at the bottom to record notes. This topic can be very embarrassing to discuss with your doctor. The app can help make this a little less awkward. I will decline showing you a screenshot of this page!
Food Diary
You can take a picture of your meal and write a description. There is a list of reactions you can check off. I am trying to change my eating habits and stay away from dairy, so this is very helpful. I’ve recorded my meals before, but never correlated my symptoms with my food choices. This is very helpful when eliminating foods one at a time.
Questions for Doctors
There are many times I get to the doctors with questions I want to ask, but then I realize I’ve forgotten my list or just never took the time to make one. I love the idea of having a list on my phone app since I usually don’t forget my phone. There’s a place to record questions and notes from your visit. It’s difficult for me to stay organized with the brain fog I have time to time so this is a great feature for me!
My Journal
The My Journal tool is one of my favorite ways to keep track of my feelings that come from having a chronic illness. It gives you a list for topic entries, then you can write an entry below. I really like the topics you can choose from. You can also choose your own topic.
Healthy Dose
Another tool that I really like is the healthy Dose tool. It has inspirational quotes with different topics. My favorite ones are love and gratitude. Inspirational quotes over the years have really helped me have a better mind frame even when things aren’t going so well.
I hope you will take the time to check out this app to track your daily health needs. Apps are so useful when it comes to the daily management of a chronic illness.
