I was honored to be selected to be a part of Maria Shriver’s new book I’ve Been Thinking … Reflections, Prayers, and Meditations for a Meaningful Life book launch team. I was given a digital early edition. All opinions are my own. I read one of Maria Shriver’s earlier books many years ago. The title was Ten Things I Wish I’d known Before I Went Out into the Real World. It was an enjoyable read. Her writing is simple and straight forward which I like.
The book is divided into sixty short, easy to read essays. Each one starts with an inspirational quote and ends with a prayer. They range in topic from community, peace, empathy, gratitude, and motherhood. I like how she writes like she talks because that is how I write. Even though she is well known she sounds like she could be one of your good friends. I also like how she speaks from the heart and draws from her Catholic faith.
She has been through some challenging circumstances, but has gone through them with grace. In her essays she struggles with motherhood, balancing her time, and forgiveness just like the rest of us. I especially liked her essay on motherhood. I am now an empty nester also, so I can relate to her deep feelings she has for her grown children. Her essay on gratitude and community also resonated with me because these are such important things to me.
I like books that make me think. These short essays gave me a lot to ponder even though they were easy to read. The book can be opened to any essay since they’re not dated. Just pick up the book and take a look at the table of contents and pick a topic you feel would be helpful for that day. Of course you can always read it from cover to cover also.
Maria Shriver’s new book I’ve Been Thinking … would make a great birthday or Christmas present for every woman on your list. It’s the kind of book that would be great on a nightstand!
