Here are some random facts about my past and present that you might be interested in knowing. Here are ten things you might not know about me.
1. My mom and aunt are identical twins. Growing up was always a lot of fun. I could usually tell them apart, but when I heard them talk from another room I couldn’t tell who was who. One time when I was four or five my mom went out of town for a convention, so my aunt came to watch us. When my mom came back a week later she was surprised when I acted like I didn’t even miss her! It was like she never left. My aunt’s daughter, (my cousin) my sister and I were as thick as thieves. We lived five hours away and looked forward to visits. It was so hard for us when it came time to say goodbye.
2. I will turn fifty in June. Where did the time go? It really makes you think about the rest of your life and what you want to do with it. I am the oldest among my siblings and cousins and most of my friends, but on my husband’s side I am the youngest. At least I’m young somewhere! My husband surprised me with a trip to LA to visit my stepsisters who moved out there a few years ago. I have never been to the state of California. One of stepsisters has two girls and just gave birth to a baby boy six months ago. I am so excited to finally meet them!
3. I have a daughter who just graduated from college. It seems like we just dropped her off for her first year! I am so proud of her and how she seized the opportunity for a wide variety of experiences that broadened her world and helped other people as well. Now I have to get used to the fact that our family’s home is no longer her primary home. It’s gradually started to sink in. I am excited to see where life will take her.
4. I married my college sweetheart. It’s hard to believe that I was only 18 when I met him. We dated for almost five years before we were married. We have had our ups and downs and life challenges. (See my about page) We will be celebrating our 27th anniversary in June. That’s so hard to believe! I am looking forward to my next chapter in life. We still have a son at home, but he is 19 and not home much.
5. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome when I was twenty-three. My husband and I had only been married ten months. I had also just given birth to my first child. Those years were a real struggle. You can also read more about that on my about page. Twenty-two years later I am still coping with symptoms.
6. I have a good amount of support which I am grateful for. Through it all my parents have never doubted me or made me feel less than. They try to support from afar as much as possible. I can only imagine how hard this was for my fairly new husband to adjust to, but we are still here almost twenty-seven years later.
7. I sometimes feel like I am still in high school. High school was not an easy time for me. I went to school with a lot of wealthy kids and we were just making it. My personality was quiet and shy until you got to know me. This made it even more difficult to make friends.
I think that might be why I am super sensitive to others loneliness. I can also feel that pain now when I feel left out. Some of those old wounds might be coming back up to the surface. When I see something on Facebook that my friends did together and I wasn’t invited it gets all stirred up again. Isn’t it crazy that I’m almost fifty and can still feel like that sixteen year old girl who didn’t get asked to the party?
8. I use to want to be an interior decorator. I love finding new uses for things I already have and making things beautiful and inviting. Unfortunately I didn’t have the math skills that are needed for this kind of job. My energy and available money can also hinder my endeavors, but I am happy with my home even though I like to tweak things every once in a while. 9. I still love to learn. Age should not be a factor when it comes to learning. I love being a life long learner when it’s something I want to learn of course! Some of the things I enjoy learning about are learning and personality styles, neuroscience and how the brain works, healthy eating, and relationships, etc.
10. I used to teach preschool and substitute for grades kindergarten through eighth grade. The preschool age and younger elementary children are my favorite ages. I miss it sometimes. Who Knows. Maybe some day I will get back to it.
I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about me. I would love some comments to get to know you better as well!
