We just got back from a week at the Jersey shore. We’ve been going for the past fifteen years. You can see what we did a few years back in Ocean City, New Jersey. This year was different for several reasons. My teenage daughter decided to forgo the vacation to be a camp counselor at a church camp. Even though I missed her I was glad she was pursuing one of her passions. It was a hard decision to make, but she made it and stuck to it. I’m glad she’s not indecisive like her mother!
Next I got a frantic phone call from my dad on our second day of vacation. My stepmom ended up in the hospital with a medical emergency. She will have a long recovery ahead. My dad reassured me that he didn’t want me to end our vacation early, but it was hard being so far away. On our last day I tripped over my son’s suitcase and sprained my ankle.
Even though these unexpected things happened it was so nice being by the water. I always feel relaxed and calm there. My favorite thing to do is bring my beach chair near the water’s edge and stick my feet in the water with a good book! Heaven on earth! Maybe someday I will get to live near the water.
We ate great food and went on a few amusement park rides. There is a frozen custard place called Kohr’s that we don’t have back home. It is delicious! They normally only have chocolate and vanilla. This year they had peanut butter, caramel, and coffee. I got a peanut butter chocolate twist. Awesomeness in a cone! I had to get my fill for the year of course!
I love taking a part of the beach home with me to remind me of the good time we enjoyed. Click here to learn one way you can do this.
Do you like beach vacations? How do you remember your vacations?

When I was a kid, my family used to visit Tom’s River, NJ every year to see my cousins. I sure miss those vacations (and being little and playing).
